Trip Overview
Known as the “Tent Peak” because of its peculiar shape and located in the Annapurna region is the Tharpu Chuli Peak. It sits in the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary amidst one of the most magnificent ranges of the Annapurna Himalayas. The Tharpu Chuli Peak is generally considered one of the easier climbs in Nepal; it is suitable for beginners and those who would like to try climbing without previous mountaineering experience. The outing combines the trek to the base camp and traveling to local villages like Ghorepani, Chhomrong, and Dovan. The trip offers you splendid views of the mountains like Mt. Gangapurna (7455 m.), Machhapuchhre (6997 m.), Hiunchuli (6331 m.) besides the Annapurna massifs. Starting at the capital and moving on to Pokhara, the trekking journey initially starts from Birethanti. Then our trail takes us to Tikhe Dhunga as we slowly ascend to the Ghorepani via Nangethanti.
The Tharpu Chuli Peak is one of the most enjoyable climbing trails in the Annapurna region. Walking past the moraines, draped glaciers, and alpine Himalayan terrains of the Annapurna, the view post reaching the summit is exceptional. As the Annapurna Sanctuary abodes abundant flora and fauna in the region, you are likely to see the natural wildlife and vegetation of the place. We see the cultural Gurung villages, diverse vegetation, colorful landscapes, and the serene Modi Khola River on this course. The people in this region are an absolute delight and will treat you like their own. Post our journey to Poon Hill via the Gurung villages; we continue trekking towards the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC at 4130 m.). We trek to ABC and head to the Peak Base Camp (4910 m.) and finally to the summit of Tharpu Peak.
Overall, the climb is less technical than the Island or Mera Peak climb and can be a reasonable step to begin one’s mountaineering journey. However, since we will be trekking for about three weeks and more than 5 hours on most days, we grade this tour as a strenuous one. Additionally, one of the other highlights of this tour besides our summit to the peak is our hike to Poon Hill and the ABC, which can be demanding at times. Hence, we suggest all our travelers be in good health and dedicate some time to training for a supported physical journey.
