Everest Chola Pass Trek is recognized as one of the best extensions for the standard EBC Trek. It combines the standard route of Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes by crossing the Cho La Pass at 5,520 meters.
The trek takes you across some of the most significant landmarks in the Khumbu region. Along the trail, you’ll enjoy the company of the majestic Himalayas, remote Sherpa villages, colorful monasteries, tranquil lakes, icy glaciers, and beautiful landscapes.
Unlike the standard EBC Trek, the Everest Chola Pass Trek allows you to scale two of Nepal’s most famous viewpoints — Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri. Besides that, this trek rewards you with the spectacular sight of Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Nuptse, Pumori, and many more. On this trek, you’ll get to stand at the shore of the turquoise Gokyo Lakes and savor the beauty of the three lakes.
Apart from the natural beauty, Everest Chola Pass Trek combines spiritual and cultural elements of the Khumbu region. Along the trail, you’ll have the opportunity to encounter the rustic lifestyle of the Sherpa community and experience their royal hospitality. Moreover, this trek takes you to the ancient Buddhist monastery of Tengboche to have a deeper understanding of their religion and culture.
The 19-Day Everest Chola Pass Trek begins with an electrifying flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Trudging past the famous Sherpa villages — Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche — you’ll make your way towards the foothills of the mighty Everest. From the base camp, you get to relish the other-worldly sight of the Khumbu Glacier, Khumbu Icefall, and the surrounding mountains.
Next morning, you’ll hike to the summit of Kala Patthar at 5,545 meters, where you can witness the glorious sunrise rising above the Himalayan panorama. After that, you’ll descend toward the village of Dzongla. After that, you’ll cross the Cho La Pass at 5,420 meters, stay overnight at Dragnak, then head towards the Gokyo Valley. Then, you’ll hike to another vantage point of Gokyo Ri to enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayas.
You’ll then descend to Lukla after walking past Dole and Namche Bazaar. Finally, you’ll catch a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla airport to conclude the trek. In a nutshell, Everest Chola Pass Trek ensures a once-in-a-lifetime experience with natural, cultural, and spiritual encounters.
